What? Come again?
Rumors are circulating that there is a Breaking Bad movie going into production in the very near future. It has been five year since the AMC series, which tells the tale of a high school teacher diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer who decides to manufacture and sell meth in order to secure his family’s future, came to an end as Walter White unleashed bloody vengeance before dying surrounded by his creation. Now, the Albuquerque Journal is reporting that a movie titled Greenbrier begins filming mid-November.
“We are happy to welcome ‘Greenbrier’ and Sony Studios to New Mexico,” New Mexico’s State Film Office Director Nick Maniatis said. “For years, we’ve built up the film industry in New Mexico and strengthened our film incentives; now, we’re seeing success after success for the film industry in our state.” According to the report, the film office has neither confirmed nor denied the possibility of this film being tied to Breaking Bad. The logline of Greenbrier is said to be the story of an escaped kidnapped man and his quest for freedom. Amongst some, it’s believed that this kidnapped man is the character Jesse Pinkman, who was played by Aaron Paul on the series.
While there has yet to be any confirmation from series creator Vince Gilligan or Sony Pictures, the film office did point out that Sony Pictures is behind the production of the upcoming film. Sony Pictures Television produced both Breaking Bad and its prequel spin-off Better Call Saul. Moreover, adding to the rumor mill, Gilligan recently signed a three-year overall deal with Sony. Until more information is provided, this will continue to run as speculation, but this is no doubt exciting to hear if you are a Breaking Bad fanatic.
