Is Marvel’s Avengers getting new playable heroes? The game has been playable in beta form this past weekend with more beta weekends planned. Some of LRM‘s scribes have been comparing notes on the game already. However, once a game is in the hands of users, well, there’s one thing guaranteed to happen and that’s some data mining. It’s really hard to keep secrets in video games, fans more knowledgeable than me can get into the code and find out exactly what you are trying to hide. Many video game secrets have been revealed through data mining.

Well, something interesting has come up, but fans are not sure what it means? A user on Reddit has data mined Marvel’s Avengers and found reference to She-Hulk, Kate Bishop, and War Machine. Does this mean those characters will be added later on as playable heroes? Maybe, no one is sure. The data mined files you can see for yourself in a Reddit thread Here. Though, I have to admit they are gobbledygook to me.

Fans who have commented on the discovery seem to be divided. Some think this means the three characters will be new skins for existing characters we know of. Obviously we would expect War Machine, she-Hulk, and Kate Bishop to have similar skills to Iron Man, Hulk, and Hawkeye. However, many of the those who commented think that the mention of Hero Cards is a give-away sign of something other than new characters.

One theory is that our existing playable characters will at times be able to call upon an AI helping hand. That helping hand would be the characters who were data mined. The one issue I have with that theory is that if every character has a Hero Card team up option, where is Cap, Nat, or Thor’s companion? Would there not be data in the files for every character if that was the case?

We do need to remember this is just a beta game though, and there could be some junk in the files that won’t be in the main game, or there may be items deliberately left out? The data mined results could be as simple as alternative skins that can be used for some characters? Either way you think, something is in those game files for She-Hulk, Kate Bishop, and War Machine, we just don’t know what yet?
