Could Superman really be the most popular hero in the United States?
The topic of the most popular superhero is always debatable. One superhero can be more popular than another just because of simple marketing. For example, some of the popular characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe like Drax or Starlord were unknown to general audiences before Guardians of the Galaxy. Every so often it’s enjoyable to see what superheroes people are gravitating towards.

Recently OnePoll did a study on behalf of Visit Anaheim that measured people’s favorite superheroes, villains and comic book universes. This study was conducted in advance of the opening of the Avengers Campus at Disneyland’s California Adventure Park. Via Newsarama we have the results of that study and they are a little bit surprising.
According to the study, DC’s Superman is the most popular superhero in the United States. In a very close second and third was Marvel’s Spider-Man and DC’s Batman. As far as villains are concerned the top twos spots went to DC’s Joker and Catwoman followed by Marvel’s Venom.
Here are the top ten lists for heroes and villains according to OnePoll:

Looking at the results of this study I have a hard time even considering these as our nation’s top superhero and villains list. If it would have just featured heroes it wouldn’t have bothered me. But looking at the villain’s list, I have a hard time believing that the Penguin even belongs in a top ten list. Also that he would be placed above Harley Quinn and Loki.
Personally, my top three superheroes are Batman, Spider-Man, and Superman. As far as villains go my top three are Joker, Lex Luthor, and Magneto. I’d like to see another study to see if it has similar results.
