Is The Speed Racer Movie Worth A Dollar? | I’d Buy That For A Dollar

I’m Stephon White and this is I’d Buy That For A Dollar! Each week, we visit our local Dollar Tree and dive into the DVD and Blu-Ray bargain bin. Are the movies we find worth the dollar we spent to take them home? You’ll have to find out each week!

Today, co-host Kyle Malone and I picked up a fairly recent, fairly high-budgeted movie in the form of Speed Racer, the 2008 adaptation of the classic anime series of the same name. The film comes courtesy of The Wachowskis, and features many of their trademarks as directors — huge ambition, crazy cool style, and bold decisions across the board.

But was all this enough to make Speed Racer a good movie? At the time of its release it was destroyed by critics and as such, it failed to succeed at the box office. Was it deserving of the bile that was heaped its way? We discuss in the first episode of I’d Buy That for a Dollar.

What other bargain bin flicks do you think we should cover in the future? Let us know down below or on the actual YouTube video.
