Netflix is currently enjoying the horror-filled success of their hit series The Haunting Of Hill House. The series, created by Mike Flanagan (Oculus, Hush, Gerald’s Game), currently sits at a 9/10 on IMDb and is holding a 92% score from both critics and audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. The series tells the story of the Crain family over the span of decades as they deal with the paranormal impact that Hill House has had on their lives. However, that success has not come without a price for some of the actors involved with the show.
In a recent interview with Metro, some of the cast expressed what they saw or felt while filming the series. Oliver Jackson-Cohen, who plays Luke on the series, stated, “Obviously you know, because we’re actors, we’ve got stupid imaginations. In prep I started to think that someone was sat at the end of my bed in the night and stupid shit like that.”
Elizabeth Reaser, who plays Shirley, added: “I had no ghostly interactions but I feel like there’s something that happens to your unconscious when you’re pretending like this for nine months. It’s more not being able to sleep, feeling crazed… It’s like your body doesn’t know that you’re pretending.”

Jackson-Cohen continued:
“There was like a week when all of us…we shot for nine months and I remember calling you [Elizabeth] one day and you just hadn’t slept. ‘I just can’t sleep because, like you say, when you’re drumming that stuff up for so long, you kind of get a hang-up on it.”
