Is the Transformers franchise being reset/rebooted? Not necessarily.
Though Hasbro stated that Paramount is set to reset the series after this December’s Bumblebee at Toy Fair 2018 Hasbro Investor Preview, now they are saying something a little bit different.
Bleeding Cool was in attendance at the three-hour Hasbro presentation at Toy Fair New York. When someone asked the Transformers brand manager about the movies and the possible reboot, this idea was not fully refuted, but also doesn’t sound likely:
“Don’t believe what you hear, don’t worry.”

Of course, Hasbro may be saving face, or didn’t mean to announce the reboot in the first place. But, this statement does seem to point to Transformers 7 and further spinoffs like Bumblebee as Hasbro and Paramount build their “universe.”
IF Transformers 7 is happening however, we will surely hear something soon, as the movie does have a June 28th, 2019 release date… for now.
In the meantime, Bumblebee is being directed by Travis Knight and stars Hailee Steinfeld and John Cena. It is set in the year 1987, so only time will tell if this is a prequel to the existing films or the launch of new continuity.
Bumblebee is out December 21, 2018.
