In a recent interview the Russo brothers say it’ll be the 2030’s before they have a chance to work with Marvel Studios again. The Russos obviously are well known for directing both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. However, the sibling director team has many more Marvel movies to their credit. Of course, since the massive undertaking that was the finale of the Infinity Saga, the Russo have been working on other projects through their AGBO production company. The Russos have said many times that one day they’d like to make another movie for Marvel Studios. Previously the Russos showed interest in Secret Wars. However Avengers: Secret Wars is now planned and we know the Russos won’t be directing it. In a recent interview with Variety the Russos explain that it will be the end of this decade before they even have a slot to work with Marvel again.
“We’re always talking; we’d need to see what would work” — even though, as Joe put it to Variety in early October, they’ve known the truth for years. “We won’t be ready to do anything with Marvel until the end of the decade,” he says.
The Russos under their AGBO production company have many projects on the horizon. This includes The Electric State at Netflix, starring Chris Pratt. Pratt previously worked with the Russos on both Infinity War and Endgame.
We could make a futile attempt to predict what kind of projects the Russos might come back to Marvel for? However at this stage it seems impossible to say for sure what the next ‘Saga’ will be following the Multiverse Saga. By this time we could be looking at a Mutants Saga. Ergo, perhaps having the X-Men involved or an X-Men vs Avengers ensemble piece? Honestly we have no way to say for sure. Therefore, until we get closer to that point it isn’t worth speculating on.

Either way the Russos have proved they have what it takes to make a successful movie in this sandbox. My guess is that Marvel Studios would be keen to work with the pair again sometime in the future. However for now, the Russos have their own plans to implement and that’s going to take a few years.
