It’s Not A Trap! – New Star Wars Rumor Says Ackbar’s Son Could Be In The Rise OF Skywalker

Ok, so Admiral Ackbar has I think about 10-15 lines across all Star Wars movies thus far, he’s a minor character at best in Star Wars. Yet one of the criticisms of The Last Jedi was how Ackbar’s death was handled. I can kind of see where people are coming from with this as I didn’t find his death very meaningful or memorable, but at the same time, It’s only Ackbar right?

Well, today we share a story that says Admiral Ackbar has a son and that he could be making an appearance in December’s The Rise of Skywalker. Courtesy of Io9 we have a rumor, or guesswork that Aftab Ackbar, son of Gial Ackbar could possibly be in The Rise of Skywalker. This is a little bit of a reach right now, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t going to happen. To cut a long story short Leia is trying to recruit people to the Resistance/Rebel cause in between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker and this story is currently playing out in the Star Wars: Allegiance comic series, designed to a lead into The Rise of Skywalker.

Well, in the comics Leia comes across young Aftab, who seems keen to join the cause. We also then have some merchandise for The Rise of Skywalker which references an unnamed Mon Calamari General. You can catch the image below of a cardboard cut-out which if currently for sale at standingstills.com.

So is it Aftab Ackbar? Honestly, I couldn’t give two hoots folks. I don’t know Aftab, I don’t care about him as a character because he’s never been in the movies and, and there is no legacy as such to follow on from his father. Well, not unless they have brought him back because he’s the best trap detector in the Galaxy and the Rebels don’t want to get sucker-punched now that his father is not on scene.

But really, he’s been on Mon Calamari, so how many traps has this guy really been caught in? Has he even moved up to cadet trapbar status yet, I don’t think so.

Our Overlord and Emperor, I mean Editor in Chief Jammer asked me why fans cared about Ackbar’s death, but seemingly didn’t care about his son? Well here’s roughly how I put it to him earlier.

Ackbar was a very minor character, but a character that was in a beloved trilogy which has almost become untouchable through pure nostalgia. The Ackbar character may have appeared briefly in movies, but he was detailed out much more in the now-scrapped EU stories, which were all fans had to go on for a long time. So whether he was good, bad, or indifferent, he was a part of something that was analyzed and pulled apart till every scrap of information had been gleaned from it, I honestly just think fans could have picked a better ending for Ackbar, but I don’t think anyone truly got themselves in a spin over it.

Whereas, cadet trapbar just hasn’t earned any emotion from the fans yet. He’s not even a meme yet like his old man, maybe after Disney+ does a series focussed on Ackbar’s attempts to stop alien animal poachers setting traps, then maybe he could be someone worthy of the meme status of his name. I guess he just can’t live up to the legend that was his old man, farewell old Admiral, there are no traps for you anymore in the Force.
