Hopefully, you’re ready to dive back into the Overlook Hotel. We may have only just recently revisited this world with the film Doctor Sleep, but even that isn’t the entire story, apparently. If you’re anxious to get back to this Stephen King-created universe, then you’re in luck. And you can thank HBO Max.
According to THR, J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot banner is hard at work developing new projects. One such project is called Overlook, and it’ll be returning to the Overlook Hotel, which was made famous by King’s novel The Shining. This horror-thriller will explore untold and terrifying stories of the hotel.

However, the good thing here is that this isn’t the first time Warners and Bad Robot have worked together on a King-related project. These are the studios that brought viewers the Hulu anthology series Castle Rock. In fact, the 10-episode series is being written and executive produced by Dustin Thomason and Scott Brown, both of whom worked on the Hulu show. Even in the midst of the pandemic, they have put together a mini writers room so they can get a jump on the scripts.
As far as what the stories in this show can actually be about…there’s no saying. My gut with this whole thing was to be negative about it, but after thinking it over, I’m checking my reservations at the door (pun intended). King’s world is convoluted and expansive, and any opportunity to actually twist it together is kind of fun.
