MINOR SPOILERS FOR THE SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE

Illumination’s “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” animated feature film is causing waves at the box office. It has taken the crown for an animated film’s biggest opening of all time. It has also moved into second place for the second biggest domestic and international opening of all time individually. But there is another way this movie has become a viral sensation: through song.

“Peaches” is a power ballad like no other sung by Jack Black, who in “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” voices the evil Bowser. In one scene in we see him sitting at a piano singing the song with all his soul as he daydreams about who he believes is the love of his life, the ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom, Peach.

Through Variety Universal has confirmed that “Peaches” will be eligible to submit for best original song consideration at the Oscars. The song was co-written by Black, the film’s director Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, as well as Eric Osmond and John Spiker.

The music video for “Peaches” was released on April 7th. Since then, it has received over seven million views on YouTube and is currently trending at number 2 on the trending page for music. You can check it out in all its glory below.

Being that we just wrapped up the Oscars not so long ago, it’s going to be a while before we see if this is a true contender. But songs like this have been eligible for consideration before. For example, “Stu’s Song” from “The Hangover”, “Blame Canada” from “South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut, and the classic “Everything Is Awesome” from “The Lego Movie”.

What did you think of the song “Peaches”? Is it stuck in your head too? Let us know in the comment section below!
