It’s almost here, folks. The moment many fans have been clamoring for:

Hugh Jackman’s last ride as Logan, aka Wolverine, is on the way. When filming for THE WOLVERINE III finishes, so will Jackman’s epic 16 year run as the beloved Marvel Comics mutant. For better or worse, he’s been the face of Fox’s X-MEN franchise. Yes, to the chagrin of a subset of fans, he was made the unofficial star of a franchise that they’d hoped would be more an ensemble affair- as it is in the comics.

In these fresh photos from the set of the James Mangold-directed THE WOLVERINE III we get our first real glimpse of what Jackman’s last hurrah will look like. All along we’ve known this film would include elements from the classic “Old Man Logan” story arc from the books, and it’s safe to say Jackman is using every second of his 47 year life to make sure his look is befitting the “old man” descriptor.

Check Jackman out below, looking tired, hairy, and somewhat out of his depth:

I’ll admit it. When I tried to picture what he’d look like in this film…this wasn’t it. But these are only a collection of candid shots from an unknown sequence in the film, so there’s not much to judge here.

The photos were taken on the New Orleans set of the film, which is slated to come out on March 2, 2017. This will be Mangold’s second go-around in the director’s chair for a Logan movie, having also helmed THE WOLVERINE. The film will be rated R- a first for Jackman’s run as Logan.

What do you think of this first glimpse from the set of THE WOLVERINE III?
