Who doesn’t think movie scores are the best kind of music ever? No, you normal, well-adjusted people with lives don’t have a say in this. I’m talking to you, movie geek. That’s right, you know what I’m talking about. As much as film is a visual medium, often times a score has the ability to elevate a picture a whole new level. Films like STAR WARS, LORD OF THE RINGS, and BACK TO THE FUTURE — while all great movies all on their own — certainly took the world by storm with the help of the strength of their scores.

While the world has no shortage of great film composers, perhaps one of the best, one of the more notable ones to emerge in the past fifteen years is Michael Giacchino. From the sounds of RATATOUILLE — which helped to accent the taste and texture of the foods made — to the STAR TREK reboot and recent batch of animated films from both Disney and Pixar, the man is definitely making his mark on the industry.

Well, a working man in the film business is never done, and in a recent tweet from Giacchino, he revealed, he will be the man in charge of bringing sound to Marvel’s next big hit, DOCTOR STRANGE.

Given the psychedelic nature of the character, and likely the film, the music will undoubtedly play a huge role in wowing audiences come this November. Admittedly, while Marvel makes great films, the scores are something that have mostly disappeared into the background of the films. That’s not to say they’re bad — some argue that disappearing into the background is exactly what a film score should do — but I’ve been waiting for a moment in those films where the themes are as memorable as the characters themselves. With the exception of perhaps Thor and the Winter Soldier, I can’t think of a character theme to speak of in the franchise. Maybe with this more intimate story of Stephen Strange, Giacchino will help to create something a bit more ear-catching than what we’re used to in a Marvel picture.
