Jake Gyllenhaal Reportedly In Talks To Play Villain In Spider-man: Homecoming Sequel

An interesting bit of news as according to The Hollywood Reporter, Jake Gyllenhaal is in talks to play the villain in the sequel to 2016’s Spider-Man: Homecoming. Gyllenhaal will take on the role of Mysterio, a villain not yet seen on the big screen, but one that fans have wanted for a long time.

For the last few months, Gylenhaal was rumored to be playing a hero in a different universe, DC’s. The actor has been linked for some time now to be up for the role of the Dark Knight in Matt Reeves’ The Batman. Gyllenhaal’s potential casting as the villain in the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel lends credence to the recent rumor that Ben Affleck does, in fact, want to stay on as Batman.

While there have been a few different versions of the character, the most likely one to be portrayed in the Spider-Man sequel is Quentin Beck. The character doesn’t actually have any superpowers, but is a special effects expert and uses his knowledge to create the illusion that he does indeed have special abilities.

I enjoy Gyllenhaal’s work and am intrigued at his casting as a villain, it will be interesting to see what he does with the character if this information turns out to be true.
