Across the weekend there was a lot of buzz around Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Specifically that the movie would be the MCU introduction to both Galactus and Silver Surfer. Big news if true, so who was the source? Turns out it was supposedly director James Gunn himself, and if you are wondering why Gunn revealed such a big spoiler, he didn’t.

It turns out, this was all an elaborate fake by a fan to make it look like Gunn was saying he had had discussions around these characters appearing in Guardians 3. You can catch Gunn’s response, along with the original post below.

This is going around a lot of fan sites now. I didn’t answer this and delete this – I never said it at all. (Not did I ever have any such discussions with Marvel). It’s 100% fake. 🙄

So yeah, if you read this anywhere, then sorry, but it’s fake news. To be honest it would have been really unlikely for Gunn to take a script written before the Fox purchase and suddenly decide to add these two characters in. I’m not saying Gunn won’t change his original script, I am sure he will. It is certainly possible for him to look to include cosmic characters such as this, but I certainly would not be betting on it.

For now, we will all have to go back to dreaming up where these popular characters will make their debut. That’s even if it is planned anytime in the next decade, who knows? One would expect the character to show up in a Fantastic Four movie, and whilst a conflict is inevitable with the Four, I kind of feel like Silver Surfer should get his own solo origin story, away from the events of Earth.

For now, we will have to be content with the gaggle of new characters we already know are coming soon. Not only do we have the movies, we now have Disney+ shows to fill out the ever-widening Marvel roster.
