On social media James Gunn gives a one year on DCU update as productions starts on Superman: Legacy. It was of course around a year ago that we first heard that Gunn and Safran were now in charge of DC Studios. Also that they would be rebooting the DCEU into the DCU. Phase 1 of the DCU, God and Monsters was announced. So far, everything is progressing as planned.
Gunn took to Instagram to give fans a small update as to where things stand a year on from those announcements. He also confirmed that yesterday was the first day of production on Superman: Legacy, the first movie in the DCU.
“One year ago today Peter Safran & I introduced our DC slate for the 1st time – thanks to all of you for the support you’ve given us throughout the year. Today, Superman Legacy is about to start production, episodes of Creature Commandos are being finished that will release later this year, at least 2 more projects are gearing up to go in the next couple months, amazing scripts keep coming in, & incredible talent are being attached to new projects, planned & unplanned. Thank you!!”

In terms of the projects gearing up in the next few months, you may be thinking Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. However, I’m not sure that is the case. Woman of Tomorrow has a writer and now a lead star in Milly Alcock. However as yet there is no director. I therefore think it’s more likely Gunn is referring to two of the planned Max shows. Waller and Lanterns are both part of Phase 1, as is Gunn’s own Peacemaker Season 2. Though, we can be confident Peacemaker won’t film until after work is finished on Superman: Legacy.
Who can say for sure? Perhaps Supergirl will begin filming this year? For now we will just have to wait and see what comes next. First it’s Creature Commandos and then next year we get Superman: Legacy, what comes next is one of the projects I mentioned above.
