Replying to a fan question on social media, director James Gunn says the costumes and score are almost completed for Superman: Legacy. Gunn didn’t provide any specific details, but here is what he had to say on Threads.
“The costume is mostly done but we’re still going back and forth on some elements. A lot of the score – maybe even most of the major themes – have already been written.”
Interesting that the major themes would have been written so fast. It does make me wonder… More on that below. As for the costume, obviously there will be an official reveal at some point once filming begins next year. However, until then we are likely not going see anything. Therefore, we have no idea what are the little details they keep going back and forth on.
One question Gunn had been asked previously was whether the red trunks would be back or remain missing. At the time Gunn said the decision had not been made and they were still exploring both options. Unless we hear from Gunn either way, it’s likely we’ll have to wait for the official reveal.

As for the score, maybe this is a just a mad theory. However, what if the reason Gunn says the score’s major themes are already written is because he’s going to use the John Williams Superman theme? There is zero evidence to suggest this is the case, however we also have no composer announced yet for the film. Also, most composers tend to base their work on the dailies once filming has begun. Or even rough cuts later on once the film is in editing.
Maybe it’s pure copium on my behalf, as ai love that theme. Perhaps my age is the reason, I was born in 78′ so growing up that WAS THE Superman theme to me. I wasn’t pleased when I heard a new theme would be composed for Man of Steel, but I ended up thinking it was rather decent. I’m sure if Gunn has hired a composer to create a new theme it’ll be decent also. I just doubt very much it can compare to the Williams one.
I also wouldn’t use any other themes form that movie, like the Lex Luthor campy theme. But the main theme for Superman and Lois is unbeatable to me. Guess I will just have to wait and see?
