James Gunn Shares A Vow He Took With Chris Pratt and Dave Bautista

Directing a bad film is more difficult than most might think, and directing a good film is levels above difficult. Even far more challenging is directing the first two entries in one of Marvel’s most popular franchises and (at least in my opinion) nailing it both times.

Extremely difficult. Think old Nintendo game hard. Yeah, like that.

Writer/director James Gunn did just that by delivering to us fans a fine product known as Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. For Gunn, as many of you know, the road traveled to get to his third film in the franchise was longer than most. His situation, which I think most all reading this article knows all about, made things difficult for the cast as well.

Today, Gunn retweeted an old Interview from 2014 the year the first Guardians film was released. The post shows Gunn, and stars of the films Chris Pratt and Dave Bautista. Gunn says it was the day the three of them took an oath together, and Gunn feels with all they’ve been through, Pratt and Bautista kept their word. You can check it out below

Pratt and Bautista stood by Gunn (as did the rest of the cast) after he was fired from Guardians 3 for a time. He said some super weird (in my opinion) stuff on Twitter, a long time ago. Did the Tweets deserve a, ”Wtf Dude?”, I’m going to say yes. However, I think it was an attempt at humor that fell incredibly flat, and, I mean, he’s just speaking. Either all speech is protected, or no speech is protected, that’s how I think about it anyway. The old “I disagree with what you say but will defend your right to say it” deal.

James Gunn is now back at the helm of Guardians 3, which is good news for the franchise and its fans. It would have put an asterisk on the entire trilogy had someone else came aboard to replace him. Gunn seems to knows how to utilize these characters to make them each shine individually, as well as blending their personalities to create the badass space crew we know the Guardians to be. After two solid entries into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he should be allowed to finish the story he started, and see his vision play out.
