James Gunn Shares Heartfelt Message As Suicide Squad Wraps Up Production

It’s been a roller coaster ride for the writer and director James Gunn. At one point a few years back Disney/Marvel Studios let him go and the third installment of Guardians of the Galaxy was left in question. Soon after, he was hired by Warner Bros. to take on The Suicide Squad after David Ayer’s 2016 Suicide Squad did not go so well. Then Disney reconsidered their decision and now Gunn is back for the third Guardians film. Hollywood right?

Yesterday via his personal Instagram account, Gunn announced that The Suicide Squad had wrapped up production. He did this with an image of one of the director chairs as well as a shot of everyone on set. Along with this was a heartfelt message about some difficulties he went through personally throughout filming. He took the time to thank the cast and crew and even went as far as calling it “the most fulfilling time” he had even spent making a film. You can check out the images as well as the message below!

“And that’s a wrap on #TheSuicideSquad. My father died two weeks before we started filming and my dog died two weeks before the end. It was a hard, hard time in my life and yet the most fulfilling time I’ve ever had making a movie. The professionalism, talent, compassion and kindness of this cast and crew inspired me every day. Thanks to everyone involved in this film, in every stage of development, in every department – I am grateful from the bottom of my heart for you all. You are why I make movies.”

Sometimes the best medicine for when going through a rough patch in life is working. Especially if you are passionate about what you are doing and you have an exceptional group of individuals that you are working with. Although nothing will ever truly take the pain away of losing a loved one, the sense of accomplishment in your work can help you move on. It’s nice to hear from Gunn how making this film help him personally.

With all the filming done, I would hope that we get to see some of this film at San Diego Comic-Con this summer. Also with everything that happened with the first Suicide Squad as well as with Birds of Prey a few weeks ago I wonder what kind of marketing strategy they will decide to go with. Especially taking into consideration that Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn will once again star in the film. They wouldn’t put her front and center again… would they?

How do you think Warner Bros. should approach this film ahead of it’s release? Let us know in the comment section below!

Warner Bros. Pictures’ Suicide Squad is scheduled to be released August 6th, 2021.
