One of the central emotional themes in Guardians of the Galaxy, was Peter’s attachment to his Awesome Mix tape. The tape was a curated list of sings from Peter’s mother Meredith. At the climax of the movie, Peter opens his final gift from his now deceased mother. The gift ends up being a new mix tape called Awesome Mix Vol. 2. Peter’s connection to his mother through music carries right through in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, where his father destroys the tape.

Of course, for James Gunn, this means making decisions on exactly which songs to include in which scene. A tough ask, as the music placement in the first two Guardians movies is one of their strong points. Now to pass the time during this weird lockdown period, James Gunn has decided to share the entire playlist he used to select songs from. This playlist was used for both Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Gunn also warns there’s no guarantee some of these songs won’t turn up in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 or other movies he does. Anyway, I’ll let the director speak for himself here.

I think my only issue with this list, is it’s on Spotify. I am one of those strange people who started off with iTunes and just never found a reason to switch my family account. So if anyone can be bothered making this list on iTunes, feel free to fire me a link on E Mail.
