Well, this is a rumor I like, the Barside Buzz is that James Gunn wants Bradley Cooper for Lex Luthor. Not only that, but that Cooper may well be interested. That’s what Jeff Sneider claims on the latest The Hot Mic. If you check 04:50 on the video linked above then Sneider and Rocha discuss all the latest casting rumors form the trades around Superman: Legacy. The guys discuss all the names mentioned in the trade reports, including the disagreements. However, what is relatively new was Sneider’s comments about Cooper.

Now, there was some insiders in the last week that said Cooper was considered, but not happening. However, Sneider says he’s heard Cooper is interested, and Gunn wants him. Sneider says Cooper and Gunn started discussing this role on the press tour for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The guys then talk about how having Cooper would be enough star power to allow Gunn to feel better about an unknown.

Obviously nothing is set in stone either way. However, this does kinda go against some other rumors, specifically that Nicholas Hoult is in consideration. Which, by the way Sneider does not dispute.

If you check my coverage of the casting rumors in the related link above, you’ll see I suggest Cooper myself. Just looking at the fact James Gunn had said he may cast Guardians actors in Superman: Legacy I thought that’s the best fit I could find. Therefore, if this rumor is true, then I’ll be very happy, Cooper is class, and I could see him pulling off Lex very well. It may all depend on what Gunn wnats as the age difference between the Lex and Superman characters. If Supes ends up being 28, we can hardly call them contemporaries in terms of their ages. That’s obviously Gunn’s call and there is no specific way that as to go.

One thing mentioned on the show by Sneider and Rocha also, is that James Gunn pointed out that they are still auditioning actors for all but one role, which is not one of the classic Superman roles. Therefore, whilst the names we have may well all be in the running, there could be others higher on Gunn’s list we haven’t even heard about yet.

I’ll keep my fingers crossed for Cooper as Lex though.
