As we wait on the DCU getting up to speed, James Gunn says he wants more Wonder Woman in animation. Gunn was responding to a fan lamenting how little there is of Wonder Woman in the animated side. Gunn agreed and said that this was something he was looking to set right in the DCU.
No we’re working on getting Wonder Woman into more animation. I agree that there hasn’t been enough of her in that area and was one of the first things I brought up to the animation folks.

Ergo, I think we can expect some Diana themed animation happening in the DCU. As you probably know, Gunn along with the other DC head Peter Safran’s vision for the DCU covers animation also. The idea for now is that live-action, animated, and video games will all be connected. Importantly, the same live-action actors will also do the voice work for animated and video games.
This is definitely set to be a unique approach. We have have the MCU, but whilst that franchise covers a connected live-action, that’s not the case for any animated shows or video games. In fact the only show we could consider canon to the MCU is likely What If…? which is itself a multiversal story.

Given the vision for the new DCU, it’s my personal guess that this is the main reason for all the casting changes. Can you imagine how much money it would cost to have Gal Gadot appearing in various live-action movies, TV shows and voicing all the animation and games? That would be the same for Cavill and Affleck also. Therefore for me, that’s why the recast makes sense. The DCU will choose actors who are not yet superstars. Likely offering them a lengthy contract that covers all these other options. In other words you’re job for the next 10 years will be to play Superman across all mediums. Here is how much we will pay you, you’ll be busy.
It remains to be seen whether this approach will bear fruit or not? Also, this is just speculation on my part so, I’m not saying this is the reason, just my guess. However it does make logical sense.
So James Gunn wants more Wonder Woman in animation. Is that another clue that Gal Gadot cannot stay in the role going forward? As always, leave us your thoughts below.
