James Gunn Was Reportedly Offered Superman By DC

James Gunn has famously switched over from the world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to the Worlds of DC. The man was once set to start mapping out the MCU through Phase 4, which would help be launched by the third entry in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. Of course, that famously got disrupted when he got in trouble over some old controversial tweets. The result? The man is now ready to spearhead The Suicide Squad, a reboot/sequel of the David Ayer-directed film from a couple years back.

But, as it turns out, James Gunn wasn’t necessarily handed this film from the get-go. According to an email blast from THR, Gunn was pretty much given the pick of the litter when it comes to the major DC properties, including Superman. Hilariously enough, he reportedly didn’t really take a liking to Superman as much as he did Krypto, the Man of Steel’s superpowered dog.

Given that Gunn is the one who brought Cosmo to the big screen in Guardians of the Galaxy for the briefest of moments, this doesn’t really surprise me much. Gunn isn’t one to go for the obvious heroes, and as such, I think he’d be kind of a poor fit for Superman.

With that in mind, his going with Suicide Squad ultimately makes the most sense. In many ways, they are the closest thing to the Guardians in the DCEU right now, and between the potential for goofiness and dark humor, it is something that is right up his alley.

Do you think Gunn made the right choice here? Should they have gone with Krypto? Let us know your thoughts down below!
