While James Gunn may have had a rough 2018 when Disney very publicly fired him from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, things have since turned around to be almost entirely in his favor. Seriously. He’s back on board over at Marvel with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and he’s also set to direct The Suicide Squad for Warner Bros. — a film he wouldn’t have been able to do had he gone forward with Guardians as originally planned.

Over the past few months, we’ve had reports and reports surrounding the casting of the movie, and yesterday, one fan said he’d heard a rumor that there would be a table reading today. Gunn was more than happy to respond and clear things up.

“Like so many rumors, this one was false. Table read was yesterday. I was, truly, blown away by the amount of talent in the room. Holy cow.”

So no. There is no table reading today, but there was one a couple of days ago. This naturally led to the follow-up question of whether or not the movie was fully cast. After all, in order to have a reading, one presumably has to be fully cast, right? Gunn responded with an unequivocal “Yes.”

As a fan of his Guardians films, I can’t wait to see the heart and soul he brings to this franchise, and if all goes right, he can essentially lock down a new franchise for himself as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 comes to a close.
