James McAvoy Isn’t Convinced The X-Men Can Exist Within The Marvel Cinematic Universe

Rumors came round yesterday that Disney has dropped the hammer on a number of in-the-works Fox projects including, a Dr. Doom film, the long gestating Gambit, and perhaps the biggest bummer of all (at least for me), the X-Force movie. While not confirmed, this is a situation most of us anticipated, so this information isn’t difficult to believe.

We all thought it likely that the Mouse would clean house, and start over with their newly acquired properties that include the X-Men, Fantastic Four, as well as a ton of others. James McAvoy, who has portrayed a young Professor Charles Xavier in the newer X-Men films isn’t so sure the mutant team would make a good fit within Marvel’s well established and now beloved cinematic universe. While doing press for his new film Glass, McAvoy spoke to Yahoo!

“I don’t know if the X-Men could go into the Marvel universe, I’m not sure. Maybe they could? But I think what’s different about the Avengers universe anyway is you’ve only got a couple of superheroes in the world. There’s a good amount, but there’s like a couple of football teams’ worth, you know what I mean? Whereas in the X-Men world you’re potentially saying there are hundreds of thousands, maybe millions of [superheroes] and the social implication of that is different.”

This is an issue that has been on the minds of fans for quite some time now, and especially since the Disney/Fox deal was finalized. How will Marvel implement the X-Men into the MCU? Difficult to say at this point, though there are plenty of ways to go about it.

I, along with many other fans hope Feige and company are hard at work ironing out these details. I don’t think there’s any reason to doubt Kevin Feige at this point, he has been the mind behind what is now the gold standard of shared universes, and will surely find a way for the X-Men to seamlessly fit into the MCU.

How would you bring the X-men into the MCU? Let us know in the comments down below!
