James Wan No Longer Producing Resident Evil Film

We like to go on acting like there really hasn’t been a completely successful video game adaptation. While that may be true in the strictest sense, we can’t forget director Paul W.S. Anderson was able to helm a complete Resident Evil saga. Sure, the movies may not have been great, but they did well enough to actually finish.

Of course, for many fans, like yours truly, there has still yet to be a true adaptation of the horror game. However, with James Wan reportedly on board to produce a reboot of the franchise, it seemed like we’d be getting that soon enough. Well, if you were one of those excited to see a new take, you may have to wait a while longer — and it likely won’t come from Wan himself, as he stated to Bloody Disgusting.

“I’m not doing that doing that anymore. That has been dropped,” he told the outlet. He then went to go on express his annoyance at the whole deal being announced too soon.

“They announce that I’m attached to a lot of stuff and a lot of them are not necessarily real. IT’s kind of annoying when things come and go, or things never came in the first place. I hate it when my projects get announced. It makes it seem like I’m attached to a lot of things when in fact I’m not necessarily doing so many things. A lot of my stuff just gets announced and I don’t want them to be announced but people love to announce them.”

This frustration is understandable. In fact, for many of us fans, it’s also a bit frustrating. There are few things more annoying than hearing about a project you care about being attached to someone who reportedly has 73 other projects in development. With that in mind, perhaps it’s worth remembering that many of these projects are likely being reported just a tad bit prematurely.

Sadly, it’s very difficult to know what’s real and what’s not, especially when they’re all reported by pretty reliable sources. I guess the most we can do is just wait it out. Over time, the duds fall to the wayside and the others actually come to fruition.

I’m still waiting for a legit adaptation of that classic first time. In my mind, Wan was the opportunity for us to get that. Oh well, next time.
