Jared Harris Is NOT Playing Dock Ock In Morbius Movie

Morbius is a strange movie, it kinda seems like it is set in the MCU, but is it? I’m not sure what the answer is, but we know Spider-Man is already referenced in the trailer alone, and that Michael Keaton is playing Adrian Toomes. Toomes, of course, was the villain of Spider-Man: Homecoming and that movie was firmly set within the confines of the MCU. I guess we are going to have to wait and see how this all begins to develop once we see Morbius itself.

In the meantime, speculation is running rife, and none more so than that centered on Jared Harris. The actor will be appearing in Morbius and fans took a look at him and immediately saw Doctor Octopus, aka Otto Octavius, aka Dock Ock. I must admit, Harris would be a damn fine Dock Ock and he has the sort of look one might associate with that character. Unfortunately, fan speculation rarely pans out, in this instance the actor himself has ruled it out, though he is not the only source.

Variety recently caught up with the Chernobyl actor at the 2020 SAG Awards, where he was nominated for his part in that show. They asked Harris about the Dock Ock speculation and he said.

“No, I love the imagination the fans have. It’s exciting for me to think about the imagination the fans have. But yeah no, it’s not.”

Though to be honest this was something we sort of should have known anyway if we follow this movie business. Scooper Charles Murphy back on January 13th already revealed the name of the character Harris was playing in Morbius. Check it out.

Saying that, scoopers don’t always get everything right and at least with Harris himself putting the brakes on this speculation, we can move on. I’d certainly love to see an MCU version of Doc Ock, but whether I want to see a Sony’s VenomVerse version, I am unsure? Then again, are they now simply the same entity, and if that is the case, can Sony actually mess up the MCU from inside potentially? These are all questions that need to be answered, we just don’t know what those answers may be yet. I think after Morbius hits theaters though, we might be able to start working all this out.
