Jason Momoa Will Star In Minecraft Movie For WB

According to a new report from THR, Jason Momoa will star in Minecraft movie for WB. The actor is in final negotiations to star in the studio’s live-action Minecraft movie, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. Napoleon Dynamite filmmaker Jared Hess will direct the project, based on the popular video game.

As per the trade,

Dune producer Mary Parent and Roy Lee will produce, with Jill Messick receiving a posthumous producing credit for developing the film before her death in 2018. Executive producers include Jon Berg, Cale Boyter and Jon Spaihts. The video game hails from Sweden’s Mojang Studios, with Mojang’s Lydia Winters and Vu Bui also producing the film.

I must admit I’m slightly surprised this is coming from WB when Microsoft bought Minecraft creators Mojang back in 2014 for $2.5 Billion. Then again, MS do not have a studio of their own, so perhaps it’s not that surprising? THR also reports WB has been trying to get this movie off the ground for several years.

As for what to expect form a Minecraft movie? I have no idea, of all the games I’d think least likely to turn into a movie, Minecraft is pretty high up there. The game has very little story, sure, there are story modes, but the success of the game comes from the ability to build whatever the damn you want to in your own little private world.

One can only imagine WB are tempting Momoa with a truck load of money as this is hardly as prestigious a role as Aquaman is for the actor. Does Minecraft even have a ‘main character’ ? I’ll have to ask my kids about that.

What do you think of the news Jason Momoa will star in Minecraft movie for WB? Does this movie adaptation excite anyone, even fans of the game? Let me know below as always.
