Jaws 4K Release Date Might Be Set For June – Is It Worth Getting?

It may be late to the party, as usual, but finally, we have a Jaws 4K release date set for June of this year…maybe? The movie Jaws is probably always going to be in my all-time top 5. That means I own both the DVD and Blu-ray versions of the movie. However, it took ages for Jaws to appear on DVD, and then again on Blu-ray. So I had been wondering how long it would take for a 4K release date?

Well, it seems that Universal Entertainment tweeted and then deleted an announcement of the movie’s 45th-anniversary release. The scheduled date for the 4K version of Jaws is June 2nd. Though I do wonder if the tweet was deleted because that might change in the current climate? If shops are still not open come June, then I doubt Universal will release this special edition. The benefits here are in getting a physical copy of the movie. Not only do you get better 4K quality from a physical disk, but the set features a lot of cool extras on top. We picked up the story from ComicBook.com, and they also snagged an image of the set. Check it out below.

For once, though, I am not sure if I will pick up the 4K edition of one of my favorite movies. The Blu-ray version of Jaws upscales to 4K set-ups really well for an older movie. In fact, the Jaws Blu-ray has some of the best quality in my Blu-ray collection. I think I’d need to see the upgrade in action first before taking the plunge. Jaws is a movie I will watch again, many times, and therefore usually worth an upgrade. Decisions, decisions.

As said above, the reason Universal deleted the Jaws 4K release date may be Coronovirus related. This release will all be about physical copies and is it really going to fly off the shelves by June 2nd? It might not completely tie in with the 45th anniversary of the movie’s release, but is that really important? I kind of feel Jaws is quite topical right now, except instead of a killer shark, we have a killer disease. The movie, of course, deals with the decision to risk economic prosperity against lives and shows the dangers of taking that chance. How many businesses out there are refusing to shut down for fear of going under outweighing the danger lurking underneath?

Will you be picking up the 4K version of Jaws? Anyone agree with me about how good the Blu-ray of Jaws upscales to a 4K set-up? Leave your thoughts below the surface as usual.
