Yesterday, filmmaker and podcaster Kevin Smith took to social media to share the start of production on his 14th film, Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. The post was also especially poignant since Smith suffered a heart attack exactly one year earlier to the day, and they had planned the start date intentionally with him celebrating his continued existence with a new movie.

But, of course, production is only one step of the long and arduous process every movie takes to hit the big screen. Some movies, especially indies, take a good amount of time to hit theaters once in the can. But what would be the case for Jay and Silent Bob Reboot? Smith recently spoke on the Mike Calta Radio Show, and on it, he confirmed they currently have their sights set on later this year.

“Oh listen, no, I think we’re out in the fall. Yeah, it’s a quick turnaround.”

This isn’t exactly a big surprise. From everything Smith has said in the past, this film looks to be a relatively low-budget affair (around $9 million), so there are likely few big VFX that would take a lot of postproduction (this ain’t Avengers: Endgame, after all). Additionally, in the past, Smith has actively worked to edit projects as they go through production, but there’s no knowing if that’ll be the case this time around, especially if he’s trying to be healthier.
