Jeremy Renner Explains Why Clint Barton Wasn’t In Avengers: Infinity War

I think Hawkeye is one of the best members of the Avengers. Not the strongest or smartest, but a core piece of the heart of the team. He really showed his value in Age of Ultron and Civil War by being able to rally people and inject some logic into tense situations. This appreciation of the character left me disappointed that he didn’t appear in last year’s Infinity War. He was in Endgame though and without giving away any spoilers, he shows us once again just how dedicated he is to the team and the cause.

There have been many stories on why Renner was not in Infinity War. Many people thought it would be because of his contract to be in the Mission: Impossible movies, but he wasn’t in the latest one. So why Jeremy? Why weren’t you in the 2nd/3rd best MCU film???

“I think it ultimately had to do with the storytelling of it all. You leave it to the Russo brothers to make those decisions.”

Jeremy gave this answer to Marc Malkin of Variety, and I think it makes sense. There’s a very important event that happens at the beginning of Endgame and it needed Clint Barton to not be in space or Wakanda. Given the events and scope of his role in this latest MCU film, I am okay with the choice to leave him out of last year’s movie.

Renner also discussed his favorite stunt, which came in the first Avengers film:

“It’s kind of a big stunt where I jump off, slaying a bunch of bad guys. And then I jump off this building. And then I shoot a grappling hook. Doing that was really fun, because it’s a practical thing. So I get to jump off a two-story ledge onto this mat, because I had to turn my body. A little difficult to turn, pull an arrow and not look like a complete jackass.”

That was a pretty cool stunt and a very fun scene.
