Watch out, Avatar, because it looks like there’s another film on the way that’s set to usurp it from its throne — at least according to its actor.

For many years, director Mel Gibson has been discussing the prospect of the sequel to his violent and bloody film, Passion of the Christ. While the original film focused on the torture and crucifixion of the beloved Christian figure, Jesus Christ, this sequel would focus on the time in between his death and resurrection.

While the idea is sound, Gibson has always been vague on the specifics, and it never really seemed like he’d delved deep into the idea himself, but if we’re to believe star Jim Caviezel’s recent comments, he’s likely done a fair bit more than that. here’s what he had to say to USA Today.

“I won’t tell you how he’s going to go about it. But I’ll tell you this much, the film he’s going to do is going to be the biggest film in history. It’s that good.”

Well, we’re always on board with a great piece of filmmaking. Say what you will about the gratuitous violence and controversial subject matter, but Passion of the Christ was still a pretty well-crafted piece of filmmaking, and so long as there’s an interesting story to tell, I’m intrigued to see what Gibson does with it.
