J.J. Abrams is planning a return to television as he has a new script that is floating around Hollywood. A new sci-fi drama series from the man who has given us a number a well-loved shows including, Felicity, Alias, LOST, and Fringe. This is a big deal, as it’s the first TV show since Fringe that he’ll have a hand in writing in.
According to sources, the new drama is said to focus on a family consisting of a mother who is a scientist, her husband, and their daughter. The family is involved in a car accident that leaves the mother in a coma. After the crash, the daughter goes through her mother’s old experiments and soon finds herself transported to an alternate reality, her father follows her not long after. In this new reality resides a dark force torments.

Abrams is currently an executive producer on HBO’s hit Westworld (excellent show). The writer/director’s last creative effort, Undercovers, only lasted one season before being given the hook. Before that, Fringe went on for five seasons. Abrams has the potential to deliver some really good sci-fi content, I really liked Fringe and I loved LOST, so I will surely check out his latest project, should it get sold and made.
Abrams kicked off Disney’s Star Wars universe and, after the firing of Colin Trevorrow several months back, has rejoined the franchise to write and direct Star Wars: Episode 9, which is currently in preproduction.
