Joe Johnston Says The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Silver Chair Will Be His Last Film

Get ready to pour out some of your favorite hard beverage for Joe Johnston, because it sounds like the longtime director is close to hanging up his directing hat in the very near future.

Speaking with ARTS, Johnston expressed his plan to retire from directing after finishing up his next film, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair. Here’s what he had to say:

“That’s the plan. It will take a couple of years to make the film, but we won’t even be able to start shooting until next winter. I think I’m just ready to go do something else now. I have a lot of dogs, and they demand long walks every day in the country [Laughs]”

But how serious is he about this? Earlier on in the interview, he was asked whether or not he’d be up to direct a Star Wars film, and his response was:

“It would depend on the story. It’s always about the story.”

So as it stands, it definitely seems like his plan is to call it quits soon, but that’s not to say that the right story can’t come along and convince him to have another go.
