“His name is JOOOOOOOOOHN CEEEEEEEENAAA!!!”
In the past few years, WWE superstar John Cena has begun the slow transition of moving from the squared circle into different areas of show business. Early in his wrestling career, Cena starred in the WWE Films The Marine and 12 Rounds as a way of promoting the company’s newly-created production studios. However, after nearly 17 years of hits, slams, surgeries and rehabilitation, it seems Cena has put much more focus in his non-wrestling abilities. From guest-hosting on NBC’s Today to appearances in films like Trainwreck, Sisters, Ferdinand, Blockers and the recent Bumblebee, it seems Cena is prepared to take on more acting work.

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that John Cena has signed on to appear in an upcoming action/comedy film on Netflix. Additionally, the film will be directed by Jason Bateman (Ozark, Arrested Development). Bateman will be reuniting with writer Mark Perez, who wrote the screenplay for the 2018 hit Game Night. The Hollywood Reporter explains the current synopsis for the upcoming, currently untitled film below:
This new project definitely has a Game Night vibe to the plot. The story centers on a family that gets stuck in an old abandoned movie studio. The sets come to life and the family members find themselves stuck in various films.
Bateman currently stars on Netflix’s Ozark, but has directed numerous episodes for the series as well. He made his feature film directorial debut in 2013 with the comedy Bad Words, which he also starred in. Last Sunday, Bateman won an award for Best Male Performance in a Television Drama Series for his work on Ozark.
