John Wick 3’s Title Revealed And Explained By Keanu Reeves

Mmm-mmm. I love me some inconsistent naming conventions. As such, the Fast and Furious franchise is one that’s delivered the goods in spades. But it looks like there is one other burgeoning franchise that may start to follow the other’s lead when it comes to titles. I’m talking about John Wick, whose second film was called John Wick: Chapter 2.

I liked that title. It was short, simple, easy to understand, and gave an air of sophistication to the whole thing. It would make sense that the next film in the franchise would be called John Wick: Chapter 3, right? No such luck! As was revealed by Coming Soon, the actual title of the movie is John Wick 3: Parabellum.

So what does it mean? Speaking with the outlet, star Keanu Reeves gave an extra bit of insight, saying:

“Prepare for war. It’s part of that famous sentence, ‘Si vis pacem, para bellum,’ which translates as, ‘If you want peace, prepare for war.'”

Makes sense to me. John Wick likes guns. Guns are used in war. Okay, I’m sold. And at the end of the day, in order for someone like John Wick to truly have peace, he literally has to create a war and kill all his enemies. Apart from me not entirely liking the number “3” being used before the subtitle (kind of implying that there will be other John Wick 3‘s in the future), I think this is something I can ultimately get behind.

With this convention-breaking third title, I hope the next one gets called John Wick 4ever, otherwise, I may have to quit the series. What do you think? Let us know down below!
