Of course, the first thing that comes to mind for many Star Wars fans is do we have our Mara Jade? Probably not, Disney has stayed away from the Star Wars Expanded Universe, so it doesn’t seem likely they would start taking from it at this point in the trilogy. With the role said to have an emphasis on action, fans can be hopeful that Russell will play the part of a Jedi, or perhaps even a sith, which will be interesting since we haven’t seen a female Dark Side user in a live-action film before. Perhaps she is Snoke’s other apprentice which is mentioned in a Star Wars magazine.

According to Variety, the studio has met with several actresses for the unknown role before choosing Russell.

The next installment will close out Disney’s sequel trilogy which began in 2015 with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which was also directed by Abrams.

Russell, and the film’s director, J.J. Abrams have worked together before on Mission Impossible: III.
