John Wick Dethrones Avengers: Endgame With $57M Opening

Avengers: Endgame has been the reigning champ of the box office for three weeks. It was inevitable that it would eventually make way for another film in the weeks to come. The question was always: Which one would it be? Some had speculated that Pokémon: Detective Pikachu would be that film, but even the Nintendo-powered franchise wouldn’t hold a candle to the Avengers. Now, in its fourth weekend, we saw that they fell only to one man: John Wick.

This past weekend, John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum took the crown, taking in $57 million in its opening weekend, topping Avengers: Endgame‘s $29.4 million. Not only is this an amazingly solid number given the mid-budget nature of the movie, but it absolutely dwarfs the $14.4 million the first movie opened with and even the respectable $30.4 million John Wick: Chapter 2 delivered.

Perhaps even more impressive is that the film has taken in nearly $150 million worldwide. This is nearly double the $88.7 million the first John Wick ended its run with and only around $21 million behind John Wick: Chapter 2‘s $171.5 million cume.

Chad Stahelski, if you’re reading this, I know you said it was up to the fans as to whether or not there would be a John Wick 4. Clearly, the fans have indeed voted with their wallets, and so long as the quality continues to meet that high bar set by the first one, then there’s no reason why a fourth couldn’t be in the cards.
