John Wick Scribe Boards A Darker Shade Of Magic Adaptation

From gun-fu to magic. Derek Kolstad has done great work on the John Wick series, helping to create a franchise that, in spite of its overall simplicity, manages to be engaging, fun, and primal throughout. Of course, the great action director Chad Stahelski brings to it certainly helps, but without there being a great script as its backbone, it wouldn’t have been more than your typical action franchise.

Now, according to Variety, Kolstad is hopping on board a fantasy series A Darker Shade of Magic. The series follows a magician who is able to travel between parallel versions of London — Red, Grey, White, and Black.

The books come from V.E. Schwab, prolific author of such books as the Villains series and the Monsters of Verity duology (which is published under the name Victoria Schwab).

While I haven’t read these books myself, I have heard a lot of great things. This announcement was really all I needed to convince myself to knock it up closer to the top of my to-read list.

Producing the film will be former Fast & Furious producer and Sony exec Neal Moritz. The film is being set up at Sony, and given how hard-up they are for franchises, it’s quite the get for them.

Have you read the book? If so, are you looking forward to the adaptation? Let us know your thoughts down below!
