Bob Iger Reiterates His Stance That Less Is More When It Comes To Star Wars Movies

As of right now, the only Star Wars movie we have on the horizon is this December’s The Rise of Skywalker. We did have another trilogy dated that was coming from Game of Thrones showrunners Benioff and Weiss, but as I am sure you know, that is currently up in the air as Benioff and Weiss are no longer working on the project.

That means we simply do not know when the next Star Wars movie will appear or who will be making it. We know that Marvel president Kevin Feige is going to be making a Star Wars movie, but that does seem something slightly farther down the line. In reality, we have no real idea what is next for Star Wars in movie theaters.

Disney CEO Bob Iger recently spoke with BBC Radio, and he reiterating his stance that less is more when it comes to Star Wars movies. Check it out.

“I have said publicly that I think we made and released too many Star Wars films over a short period of time. I have not said that they were disappointing in any way. I’ve not said that I’m disappointed in their performance. I just think that there’s something so special about a Star Wars film, and less is more.”

This echoes statement he previously made when speaking with The NY Times, that we also covered at the time.

“I just think that we might’ve put a little bit too much in the marketplace too fast. I think the storytelling capabilities of the company are endless because of the talent we have at the company, and the talent we have at the company is better than it’s ever been, in part because of the influx of people from Fox.”

Personally, I think there seems to be a bit of a change in philosophy happening with this franchise and I’m not yet sure we are seeing the end results of all this. First off, we need to wait to hear whether Benioff and Weiss trilogy dates have been canceled because December 2022 seems like not a long way off to start a trilogy from scratch. I hope they do delay the next movie, as rushing to meet a deadline is exactly what caused some issues with the sequel trilogy to my mind.

After that, it all depends on the creatives, who will Lucasfilm bring in to make the next Star Wars movies and move the franchise beyond the soon to be ending Skywalker Saga?

What do you think Lucasfilm should do next with Star Wars, do you agree with Bob Iger that less is more when it comes to Star Wars? Leave your thoughts below in the usual place as always.
