Johnny Depp Out Of Fantastic Beasts Warner Bros. To Recast Grindelwald

According to THR a recent court ruling has led to actor Johnny Depp leaving the Fantastic Beasts franchise. Warner Bros asked Depp to step down from the role of Grindelwald and Depp obliged. Depp recently lost a case of libel against The Sun. You can check out what he had to say on his Instagram below.

“I wish to let you know that I have been asked to resign by Warner Bros. from my role as Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts and I have respected and agreed to that request.”

More from Depp:

“The surreal judgement of the court in the U.K. will not change my fight to tell the truth and I confirm that I plan to appeal. My resolve remains strong and I intend to prove that the allegations against me are false. My life and career will not be defined by this moment in time.”

Warner Bros. will cast another actor in the role to replace Depp. That’s a hard recast, not only because of Depp’s notoriety but it’s not often huge films such as this have to do the soap-opera switch.  You can check out a statement from the studio below.

“Johnny Depp will depart the Fantastic Beasts franchise. We thank Johnny for his work on the films to date. Fantastic Beasts 3 is currently in production, and the role of Gellert Grindelwald will be recast. The film will debut in theaters worldwide in the summer of 2022.”

This continues the saga between Depp and ex-wife Amber Heard. Tons of back and forth in this battle and in all likelihood there’s a long way to go until it’s finished. I take no sides on the issue as I have neither the knowledge nor desire to weigh in on their personal matters
