Joker To Be A Mother-Son Story

The Joker film is definitely something that has stoked a large amount of interest from people.  Some fans like the idea of an origin story while others do not, but either way, many are feeling this good be a success for the DC brand.

Even though a majority of details regarding the film have been kept extremely quiet, Brian Tyree Henry (Child’s Play, Godzilla vs. Kong, A Quiet Place 2) spoke with The Observer and has revealed some details regarding the anticipated origin story for our favorite villain:

“I think it’s going to be very different because it really goes into just the origin story. Villains are never born that way, they’re made. There’s something that happens in their lives that they give up their faith in humanity; they see the flaws of humanity and mankind and feel like they must correct it. And what happens with Joker is you start to see how he really was a happy person. He really was trying to find this…hope in humanity until it broke him down and he just had to give up and reshape it.”

The concept of society breaking down Arthur Fleck is nothing new, but the next part of the interview describes more of the focus of what many fans have speculated would lead to Fleck’s turning point leading into the Clown Prince of Crime:

“Also, there’s going to be a connection [made] about a boy and his mother. That is another thing that you’re going to seethat he was capable of love at some point. But, at the end of the day, I think it’s all about how he was made that way, how he didn’t start being that kind of person.”

The “one bad day” concept definitely looks to be a focus for the Joker’s creation. While this isn’t all completely new to us I think it definitely gives fans insight into how Fleck changes, but also shows a rarely seen side of the character in the fact that he was capable of love at one point in time.

I still have a feeling that his mother is somehow connected to Thomas Wayne and that she will eventually meet her demise which will lead to Fleck transitioning into the Joker.  The article also mentioned that the Wayne family would not be a primary focus which is good.  Since the film is grounded in reality, the focus on Fleck’s mental state as well as his extreme connection to his mother definitely humanizes the character and should look to create a character the fans can sympathize with.
