In dramatic news that broke last night, Jonathan Majors is fired as Kang after receiving a guilty verdict against him, so what’s next for the MCU? That’s some of the Buzz we will look at, but first let’s deal with the facts. Following the trial against Jonathan Majors the actor was found guilty of some of the charges levelled against him. In no time at all, and hardly surprisingly, Disney/Marvel has fired Majors from the MCU.
Ergo, Marvel are left with two choices, recast Kang, or rewrite the plan for this Multiverse Saga. All the trades are running this story, but I’ll link you to Deadline, where I saw this first.
‘Jonathan Majors is out of the Marvel Studios kingdom. The news comes today in the wake of the Emmy-nominated actor being found guilty of reckless assault and harassment in his domestic violence trial by a six-person NYC jury. A studio rep confirmed the news about their decision to not move forward with Majors in the MCU.’
Now there is a few more details about what happens next from one trade. There are also some rumors from the usual insiders, but they don’t all match. For now, I’d take any rumor we share as a maybe. It’s assumed Marvel had this option ready pending the verdict, however we don’t know that for certain.

Some of the trades are reporting that Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is now simply titled Avengers 5 within the studio, Below you see a post from the editor of THR using the Avengers 5 tag for now until another title is chosen. We already knew Michael Waldron was now retooling that movie and is now writing both this and Secret Wars.

However, getting into the Barside Buzz, Jeff Sneider says the decision to move away from Kang has already happened. Sneider says there will now effectively be a two part Secret Wars.

However, not every insider agrees with that. Daniel RPK had this to say on his Patreon service after the news broke.
“The Kang Dynasty was to film next March in the United Kingdom, the Waldron storyline still involved Kang from Majors, and there were no plans to bring Doom in place of Kang. If Majors was innocent Marvel would have kept him!”
Meanwhile another insider MTTSH said on (something called Nitter?) that the plan is to replace Majors and move ahead.
I certainly won’t say who is right or wrong, perhaps they are all just guessing and half of them will hit the jackpot? However, I have an opinion, and that opinion is that they should just recast Majors. Use some Multiverse shenanigans to explain the face change, maybe ageing him up a bit. I don’t think fans would mind. The main priority is to find someone who is a great actor, not someone who looks like Majors.
However, who knows what they will do?
