Jumanji Sequel Officially Underway, Kevin Hart Dies In First 15 Seconds Of Film

Back before Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle hit theaters, I thought it was careening towards a failed launch. While I love Dwayne Johnson and the fun he brings to his movies, I couldn’t help but feel like they’d shot themselves in the foot by releasing it so close to Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Now I’m the idiot who has to say he was wrong. The film took in nearly $1 billion off its $90 million budget, and it wasn’t long before a sequel was announced.

Now, Johnson, who is a master of using social media to hype up his own projects, has taken to Instagram to share the progress of the sequel. As it stands, it looks like writer/director Jake Kasdan is back for this film, and he’s given one hell of a pitch that has Johnson pumped. Here’s what the actor/producer posted on the social media platform:

“Ladies, gents and children of all ages.. The JUMANJI SEQUEL is officially underway.

Holy shit what a dynamite pitch from our writer/director Jake Kasdan.
We couldn’t stop laughing and most importantly – like our first JUMANJI – the HEART in our story is our anchor.

Writing with Jake, are our original JUMANJI writers Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg. Back to produce is my twin, Matt Tolmach and myself, @danygarciaco & @hhgarcia41.

And sorry for the spoiler but @kevinhart4real dies in the first 15 seconds of the movie, to what I’m assuming will be a HUGE standing ovation from the audience and the cast @karengillanofficial @jackblack @nickjonas 😂

Glad to hear they’re bringing back the humor for this, as it was a staple that helped to keep this one from feeling like a standard jungle picture, but I’m even more happy to hear about the heart in it. With sequels, it’s easy to capitalize on the surface-level elements — the action and comedy. Those are the big enticers that bring in audiences, but not the ones that really keep them there.

As Deadpool and Deadpool 2 have proven, the heart is where it’s at, and the Jumanji sequel looks to be following suit.
