The road to any adaptation is often littered with failure. That rule pretty much goes double for anything from DC. Over the past five or so years alone, we’ve seen more than enough projects go through development only to fizzle out. One such project we’ve seen rise and fall more times than we can count is Justice League Dark.
Made up of some of the more supernatural characters of the DC Universe, the Justice League Dark appeals more to the horror fans. The characters making up the team early on were Constantine, Zatanna, Deadman, and Swamp Thing. Guillermo del Toro and Doug Liman were among many filmmakers flirting a big-screen version of the project, but nothing ever came of it.
Now, we have perhaps the most promising look in the form of an untitled drama set in the Justice League Dark universe…whatever that means. The project will debut on HBO Max and will be spearheaded by J.J. Abrams’ production banner Bad Robot.

This untitled DC project will be one of three projects that is kickstarting the producer’s relationship with HBO Max. Like many, I can’t help but wonder if this will have any connection to the Swamp Thing series. The show received fan acclaim on DC Universe but was seemingly tanked by execs for no real reason. Many had hoped that the series could have led to a Justice League Dark series, but perhaps Abrams and co. could revitalize that character for whatever this series is.
Of course, I’m sure many of you are also wondering if anyone else on this green earth can play Constantine other than Matt Ryan. Would he be up to play the role or is it time it moved on to someone else? Let us know all your thoughts in the comments down below!
