Disclaimer: If you don’t want to be spoiled for Justice League, I don’t recommend reading ahead.
It’s taken a bit of time, and some would argue a couple of bad movies, but we’re finally knee-deep in the anticipated DC Extended Universe. Early next year, we’ll be seeing the origins of Wonder Woman, and around this time next year, we’ll be seeing the Justice League hit the big screen.
Rumors about the final roster have been circulating for years now. In the past several months, however, the lineup seemed pretty obvious based on what we’ve seen in Batman v Superman. The team would consist of: Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Cyborg, and Aquaman. The recent set visits from various outlets all but confirmed this, and DC/Warner Bros. even went so far as to release a promo image featuring this group.
But of course, one of the big wild cards seemed to always be the Green Lantern Corps. Given the original Green Lantern’s failure to kickstart the DCEU back in 2011, it seemed clear that the property would be on ice for as long as possible, but no one has ever discounted that someone from the Corps could show up in Justice League. Now, a new report from TheWrap states that indeed a single member would be showing up in the film for a “key sequence.â€
While this is far from a confirmation, this would be a solid move on DC’s part. I don’t know about you, but based on that wording, I can’t help but get vibes I got before the release of X-Men: Days of Future Past, when Bryan Singer stated he wanted to use Quicksilver for a key scene. The result was a badass action sequence that pretty much stole the movie.
Let’s face it, regardless of how stupid that Green Lantern movie was, there’s no denying he has a badass superpower. If they were to Quicksilver it up and use a Green Lantern in a single key action sequence, that would probably make the entire movie for a lot of people. There’s no need to delve into origins, no need to incorporate him in a big way. Just give him a few scenes to steal the show before he rides off into the green-tinted sunset.
