Earlier this week, Zack Snyder continued to fan the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut flames when he posted an image of film canisters on social media. These canisters featured a label that indicated it was the “Director’s Cut” of Snyder’s own Justice League, pretty much confirming its existence — something that’s been a big debate up until this point. But that wasn’t the only interesting label.

It also had an indicator that said it was 214 minutes long. That’s over three-and-a-half hours long. So, not exactly your standard theatrically-released picture. But is it really that long? There were doubts, including from Forbes contributor Scott Mendelson, who didn’t think that number indicated the length of the finished cut.

“This is almost certainly an assembly cut, which is always excessively long because that’s what an assembly cut is.”

Snyder was cut to bat that down, saying:

“The assembly cut was nearly 5 hours long.”

This seems to confirm two things. One is that this is a long movie, and two that Snyder managed to only cut an hour and a half or less from a five-hour cut, which is actually fairly impressive — or it shows a surprisingly little amount of restraint on Snyder’s part.
