Honey, I Shrunk The Kids Director In Talks To Return For Reboot

Not too long ago, I had one of those random desires to revisit one of those great childhood movies I enjoyed: Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. I had fond memories watching the VHS of it (the one with the Who Framed Roger Rabbit preview) on repeat back in the good ol’ days, but I assumed it would fall in line with a lot of stuff I watched I was kid, in that it would be entertaining, but ultimately bad.

Well, I was shocked to find that not only was this movie directed by living legend Joe Johnston (The Rocketeer, Captain America: The First Avenger), but that the movie itself held up incredibly well (the same can’t be said about its sequels or TV series). This made me a bit wary of there being a new film that follows an older Nick Szalinski played by Josh Gad. But now I have hope.

Variety is reporting that Johnston is in talks to return to the rebooted film, which will act as the third sequel to the original Rick Moranis-starring one that hit theaters back in 1989.

This film was originally going to be a Disney+ movie, but apparently Todd Rosenberg’s script impressed them enough to release it theatrically. Add in the Joe Johnston news, and you somehow have me officially excited for this one.
