Karen David in In Hollywoodland

Karen David is a remarkable actor, who happens also to be down to Earth.

Her acting career stretched across the globe from being in productions in the United Kingdom to here in the United States.

In promotion of the short film In Hollywoodland that makes its premiere at the American Black Film Festival this week, she graciously spoke with LRM Online exclusively about the exciting project. The short film is her first listed produced project, in which she starred as Queenie.

The film mirrors Lewis Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland,” with Zodwa an actress in this dream state journey meeting unusual characters representing various stages of Hollywood in casting, agency, and production. David’s Queenie character plays off the Red Queen from “Alice in Wonderland” as the casting agent in the Zodwa’s dream.

Jessica Sherif (home Schooled) directed the short film from a script written by Yetide Badaki (American Gods, This Is Us). Badaki stars in the primary role of Zodwa. The rest of the cast includes David, Luke Youngblood, Dominic Burgess, and Jen Richards.

In this remarkable long interview, we discussed in detail about David’s career from stretching her singing and comedy chops in two seasons of Galavant to playing a Disney princess Jasmine in ABC’s Once Upon a Time. For the Walking Dead fans, she even talked about her experience getting down and dirty by joining the cast of Fear the Walking Dead. We even topped it off by promoting her Instagram series “Tea with Karen.”
