Karl Holt on Serial Killer Teddy Bear in Benny Loves You [Exclusive Interview]

The cuddliest dolls may prove to be dangerous when children stop loving them. With Benny Loves You, Karl Holt lets his imagination run wild with a killer teddy bear on the loose.

Holt stars and directs the hilarious horror-comedy when a teddy bear (think to Tickle Me Elmo) goes on a murderous rampage to protect his most loyal friend. The film has over-the-top laughs with blood, gore, and carnage everywhere.

Here’s the synopsis:

After the accidental death of his parents, Jack’s comfortable lifestyle comes to an end and he must sell his family home. Desperate to improve his life, Jack throws out his childhood belongings including his beloved plush, Benny. It’s a move that has disastrous consequences when Benny springs to life with deadly intentions!

The horror movie also stars Claire Cartwright (Rueful Warrior) and George Collie.

LRM Online’s Gig Patta chatted with director and star Karl Holt on this laughable, cute, and deadly film of Benny Loves You. We talked about the CGI puppetry, the voice of Benny, and the carnage galore.

Karl Holt directed the short film Negative Image about a paranormal journalist desperate to capture an entity on film. In last year’s The Pandemic Anthology, Holt directed the segment Unearthed, in a collection of films that were produced in the comfort of their homes due to the pandemic. Benny Loves You is his first starring role and directorial debut for a full-length feature film.

Benny Loves You is in select theaters tomorrow, and then On Demand starting May 11. Also, the release date on Blu-ray is for June 8.
