Katee Sakhoff Joins The Mandalorian As Bo-Katan — Confirming This Series As An Extension Of The Animated Shows

The Mandalorian locks down Bo-Katan.

In case you didn’t know, Dave Filoni is involved in The Mandalorian pretty heavily. But in case his fingerprint was present enough in the first season, you’re sure to see it front-and-center in the second season. Earlier this year, we got word that Ahsoka Tano would be joining the show. Not long after, there have been rumors about Rex joining the show. Both characters had journeys in the Filoni-led animated shows, and now, it looks like you can add another person to the slate.

/Film is reporting that the Mandalorian leader Bo-Katan Kryze will be present in Season 2 of The Mandalorian. Furthermore, Battlestar Galactica Katee Sakhoff will be reprising her role as the character. She first voiced Bo-Katan in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and later Star Wars Rebels, so this is kind of a big deal.

As you may know, The Mandalorian Season 2 has already finished filming. As such, it will be hitting as planned this coming October, Katee Sakhoff and all.

Who Is Bo-Katan?

But, some of you may be asking…who is Bo-Katan? I’ll admit ignorance on the subject. I’ve long avoided Star Wars animated shows. While I tried to give them a chance early on, they’ve always felt a bit too childish for me.

Luckily, though, there are plenty here on the LRM staff who have seen the shows. They have informed me that Bo-Katan is Sister of Satine who was Obi-Wan’s love interest. She is old-school Mandalorian wanting her people to go back to the warrior days. At the end of her story on Rebels she is in possession of the Darksaber and ruler of Mandalore.

Why Does This Matter?

Okay, so first off, you may recognize the word “Darksaber.” On the heels of The Mandalorian, that’s all anyone could talk about apart from Baby Yoda. Moff Gideon wielded a Darksaber at the end of the show, and between that connection and the general Mandalorian connection, it makes sense that someone like Bo-Katan would show up. This is even coming from someone with only secondhand knowledge of anything related to the animated shows.

This is also important because this confirms one thing: I need to bite the bullet and watch those damn shows. As much as I wanted to separate myself from the animated series, it’s clear that these connections will grow more prevalent throughout The Mandalorian. What’s more is that it’ll become more important for the inevitable spin-off shows, such as the Ahsoka Tano series. If I want to be able to write meaningfully about this stuff, I’ll need to consume.

I think this also confirms that, for the time being, Filoni himself will be dealing in the live-action realm on Disney+. While some were speculating that Lucasfilm was grooming him for a live-action movie, I think the live-action series are more his speed — for now. After shepherding this whole deal, I think it’ll be inevitable that he’ll make the leap to a live-action feature, but this is a good step from animation into a different medium.

So, how do you feel about Katee Sakhoff joining The Mandalorian as Bo-Katan? Are you happy to see these increasing connections or just sad? Let us know your thoughts down below!
